Review | Rainer Mahlamäki at the November Talks 2017 in Prague

Memorial Places

The Finnish architect Rainer Mahlamäki, who is the dean of the Oulu School of Architecture at the University of Oulu, gave the second lecture of the November Talks series at the Czech Technical University in Prague.

Entitled “Memorial Places”, his presentation introduced many competition entries and completed projects of his architecture office Lahdelma & Mahlamäki, which seeks to bring together art and architecture.

Among other works, his audience got to see a project of the Museum of Defense and Siege of Leningrad and the world-famous Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw. In that project, architects provided Warsaw’s community with an opportunity to confront history in a dignified manner.

Rainer Mahlamäki concluded his lecture with his latest project – Seduva Jewish Memorial and Museum – which uses architecture to create a place of reverence for this tragic time in Lithuania’s history.
